Mine is 40" and still growing, and I'm only 60" tall, so -- Why, I don't know! Initially because it was easier to be able to pull it back or put it up than maintain a short hair style, then because my thick, wavy, dark hair looked good in a long braid over one shoulder (no, really), and then because I developed a morbid curiosity as to how long it WOULD grow if I let it. If it's genetically determined, I must take after my father, because my mother swore she could never grow hers past her shoulders. This is actually my third go-around with very long hair; each time, it grew to my behind or even longer and was still growing when I cut it because I was ready for a change. Also, I don't get the "trimming it to make it grow faster." When you trim it, you're cutting off whatever growth you've gained, so... SMH! At this point it's beginning to gray and thin, though, so time for another short cut until it grows out again. For the record, I wear it up in a claw 99.9% of the time and don't think it looks good down. Again, it's more of a science experiment than a fashion statement.
