My kids call boy shorts "wedgie shorts". That's the one kind of underwear they won't wear.
Personally, I don't care what kind of underwear my kids have. My 13 year old has as wide a variety of underwear as most adult women. My 10 year old likes underwear with lots of decorations and satiny fabric...she usually gets her underwear from the ladies' section rather than the kids section. I've been buying push up bras for my 13 year old for a couple of years...she doesn't need a push up bra but she likes them. I let her pick out her own undergarments...I pay for them, but she's the one who's going to wear them, so she should pick what she wants.
I'm not worried that either of my kids want their nice undies so that a boy can see them...they don't even know any boys. They like nice underwear for the same reason they like scented lotions or nail polish...it makes them feel good. And the tween years are so miserable for most kids that if I can buy something that makes them feel good about themselves, it's worth it.
I know...she wears a D cup so she really doesn't need a push up bra for the usual reasons that people get them, but she likes the way the foam cups look smooth under t-shirts.
My daughters are 7 and 8 years old. Why are there boy shorts and hipsters for such young kids? Am I the only one who doesn't like this? I mean, to each his/her own but, I just feel they're too young to wear that stuff. Like high heels. IDK. Just felt like sharing and getting some opinions.
I also think little girls should wear little girls underwear - they grow up soon enough. Companies like Hanes still make briefs for little girls, and Hanna Andersson also makes 100% cotton undies that are a little pricey, but they last forever.
OP, I agree with you. I had one of my young cousins with me for a summer while her parents worked out their differences. She arrived wearing hot pants, a see-thru shirt, and slutty makeup. The change didn't happen immediately, but by the end of the summer, she was dressing modestly and wearing only a little light pink lip gloss.
She later confessed that she didn't really like the hot pants but that's what her friends wore and that's all she could get at the mall. Her mom didn't have time to help her shop.
We had some long talks about modesty and self-respect.
I see a lot of the little girls at the mall looking like hookers. I feel like telling their parents, "You don't have to put up with this! Demand better from them and the retail stores."
I want kids, but I imagine these days having a daughter is difficult especially with clothing! When I was in high school, I didn't know thongs existed for "everyday wear" until girls at my school would have them hanging out. My mom would never buy them for me, and quite honestly I would be too embarrassed to have asked her anyway. I think swimwear is even harder. To this day, I'm uncomfortable wearing a bikini around my family so I always wear shorts over the bottoms.
