There is nothing more stylish, classy and simplistically elegant than a Cartier Tank watch.

If you are lucky, you *might* be able to find a good vintage (c1970s) one at the upper end of your price range, and it will look as good, if not better, than most of today's over-sized models. (I have two 40-50 year-old tanks and would not trade them for anything.)

It is also the most copied watch in history so you can look for new, similarly styled watches offered by other manufacturers.

A few things.

First I would avoid gold as my only watch. Gold is OK but it is more limiting than silver and it will also date faster.

Second I would advise saving money and getting a better watch. I like Omega but I have a couple of Seiko's and MKII Kingston's.

There are some Seiko, Citizen and Orients that will fit your bill.

I also highly recommend Christopher Ward. Here is one I like:

It is about $900 now but it can be had cheaper of you wait for a sale and buy it from the UK sight when the dollar is strong VS the pound.

I hate this watch. This watch is very limiting to what you should wear it with. Tux? Yes. Sport coat and Jeans? Probably not.

This is what I also wanted to suggest, but he said no big "names" for some reason. However, I do agree lol
I love my movado, it's clean and looks good with anything from dressy to casual.

no 1 reason is I don't have to wind it

no 2 is resale value

no 3 is Diamonds and Sapphire

no 4 waterproof.

no 5 Classic styling

no 6 I like the fastening (cannot stand leather straps and the Citizen clip fastening is the best around also pinch proof)

I have a gold and diamonds with mother of pearl face and chrono, I want a silver

Then I will never buy another watch again except for (maybe) $2 fashion stuff
