Really does depend on the shade of red. If you feel comfortable in them, wear them! Did you try them on for your wife, and if so, what did she think? And how do you think you look in them?
...They weren't bright red, kinda medium, not red but not maroon either. A little darker than a tomato lol....
The color sounds anything but "controversial." But so many American women in this forum seem to have extremely conservative views about men's clothing, so perhaps you'd better slink back to the store and buy a khaki pair.
Let me start by saying that my "standard uniform" at work is a nice button down shirt and a pair of Banana Republic chinos. I've been buying/wearing these pants for years as I can just purchase them without even trying them on. I'll buy 'em, wear for a few years till they fall apart/get stained and or too short, then repeat.
Anyway, I usually buy the standard khaki/grey/blue/black/brown colors. I popped into my local BR yesterday while waiting for some takeout to be ready and noticed they had some new colors, red being among them. I was tired of wearing the same old colors so thought I would try the red ones out (I'm a man if that matters). They weren't bright red, kinda medium, not red but not maroon either. A little darker than a tomato lol.
Well I get home and pull the pants out of the bag. My wife sees them and she's like "red pants? Oh HELL NO!" So I ask, what's the consensus on red pants? I tried them on with the shirt that I thought I would wear with them and it did kinda look like I was headed to the rodeo. I guess she was right.
It depends on whether you are trying to send a subliminal message or not. It's taken me decades to finally figure out what it was.....
Sounds like another one of the Clothes Rulers deciding who can wear what. If you feel comfortable wearing the pants OP, then wear them and ignore any naysayers.
OP: if you like the red pants then wear the red pants. It is your body and your choice no matter what your wife thinks.
There are a few items of clothing that Mr. CSD wears that I don't particularly like however, he is a grown man and he can choose the clothing he wears. I am not his Mother and I do not dress him.
I solicited my wife's opinion not because I seek her approval but because I respect her opinion above all others. She's pretty stylish to boot. As I would expect, she was honest and didn't sugarcoat it. I think they look good but at the ripe old age of 48, I don't think red pants are my thing after all. Sure, I have red shirts and even red shoes but I think I'll return these.
Thanks for the comments all. Oh and don't mind the mess in my kids playroom.
Return them? I think they look good, especially with your choice of shirt. But if you feel self conscious wearing them, it's probably better not to. Clothes should make you feel good about yourself.
