You haven't worn hoop skirts? There's a petticoat worn under the skirt that has big hoops sewn into to hold the skirt out. There's other petticoats under it, too, but not that many. Most of that volume is just empty air space. To get through a doorway, you can either squish the hoops into a narrower shape or tip one side up (if there's nobody watching) to get through the doorway. Sitting down in hoop skirts is another adventure. I think before plastics, the hoops were made of whalebone.
Ughhhhhhhhh, jogging suits! The ones in the 70s or maybe early 80s. People would wear those everywhere (to prove they jogged even though they didn't)...out shopping or whatever...to school to pick their kids up...to & from the office...complete as often as not with the satiny-suit-stretched beer belly or groaning-stretched backside...either that or completely the other way, loose-wrapped shiny stuff that looked like the aluminum foil you get around a burrito at the 7-11, everyone looked like a space burrito...oh dear God.

oh Id forgotten about them.. the louder the better it seemed for some with the wide raglan sleeve. oh yes and as you say, jogging suits, trainers and they never did anything fast than a walk..

Blouson dressed from the 80s.. I saw Sue Ellen in Dallas in one and thought she looked so cool.. forgetting shes about six inches taller than me, I rushed out to buy one and could have cried, I looked like Goldie Hawn in Overboard.
