I hate cheap (as in no thought given to construction) shoes but that's pretty much the norm here!

Designer shoes never end up in DSW. The term "Designer Shoe Warehouse" is a misnomer because stuff there are not designer products. Although I found awesome Chuck's and Nike's there!
If you don;t live in NYC, Miami, or LA where they have private sale, try yoox.com.
But if you really want something particular you can hire a personal shopper in your area.
Try london-o.com. They cater for high quality designer items. Some of my friends are getting their makeup, perfume and other fashion items in there.
