(I am a guy in his late 30s) Yes, I do often; I enjoy dressing up a bit. Not infrequently I'll wear chinos, an Oxford or broadcloth button-down, and a blazer to go do stuff on the weekends. If I'm going out for dinner or drinks I might even add a tie to that.

I'll dress up any time I go somewhere nice - a play, out to dinner - or meeting someone where dressing nicely is a courtesy.

Yes, I do. I get tired of wearing casual clothing, or worse, sweats or jeans. I wear suits to work and work-related meetings. If I'm going out, even to the grocery store, I'll be wearing dress slacks or a skirt, and a nice sweater or blouse. I dress up when I travel via train or plane as well.

This. It's fun to be stylish. That can be done with skirts, or with jeans outfits in different colors (I never wear basic blue denim). Even with shorts, I color-coordinate things. "Casual" doesn't necessarily mean sloppy-casual. There's also sharp-casual, or smart-casual they call it.

If I go to a shopping centre on a weekend, I see lots of people walking around, who look like they put some serious effort into it. It's too bad, in a way... the mall used to be someplace where you could run in to do some errands, while wearing a sweatshirt and your hair in a banana clip. Not anymore though lol.
This definitely not the case in SW WA state! People at the mall often look disheveled. Some wear house shoes and/or PJ bottoms. Of course, I'm not at the mall on a weekend if I can help it! Perhaps the clientele looks sharper on Saturday.

That must be a generational thing, though, right? Adults 30+ generally don't do that. People are generally well-dressed in Seattle malls. Kids have always had their own thing going on.

"Disheveled". That's funny! It makes the US sound like a nation of bums. It's not really that bad, is it? lol
