when you're in between base shades (whether it's foundation or a tinted bb/cc/primer), is it better to go one shade lighter or darker regardless of seasons? i remember some people recommending going darker since it warms up your skin tone. however korean makeup goes for lighter for brightening purposes or to match your neck (since it does tend to be lighter than your face). i'm asian, somewhere between light and medium in most base shades, but i do find that the korean philosophy of base makeup just makes me look ghostly. anything wrong with going darker instead of lighter if in between shades?

You should always match your foundation to your neck. If that means going a shade lighter, then go a shade lighter.
It's not the cheapest option, but when I'm in between shades, I buy the lighter and the darker, and mix them.
I do the same thing when I'm in between shades. In the summer the darker one usually works alone and in the winter I use the lighter one or do my custom mixing to get the right shade.

The only match I have found is with Guerlain and YSL was the closet after that, however before then I would buy a foundation that was closest to my neck then use a darker setting powder which would make the lighter foundation warmer.
