Greetings,
I'm considering purchasing my first pair of classic men's dress shoes. I haven't yet decided on which exactly to get. I have narrowed it down to either a Blucher or Derby. Those are my two choices as of right now. They both have open lacing systems. But there is some slight differences between the two that's fairly subtle. At this point I'm wondering which to go with and could use a little direction. In addition to wondering which one is more versatile and can be the most widely worn in most circumstances and situations, I'm also wondering which is the more comfortable shoe of the two, especially to actually walk in on a daily basis?
Thank you
I think the Derby looks more modern. If you need a dressier shoe, then go with the Blucher.
I also want to recommend trying on several pair of each at more than one shoe store. Do not buy the first pair you try on, at least until you have tried on other pairs. Take your time deciding.
Comfort will vary by brand. Try some on and walk around in them. I tend to favor Allen Edmonds and certain models of Brooks Brothers. A lot of brands have gone down in quality over the years. Johnston and Murphy has slipped considerably, and Cole Haan is hit or miss. As for versatility, they are equally versatile. An oxford is going to give you a more formal look if that's what you need to go with a suit. Blucher's and derby's can be worn with slacks, khaki's or jeans.
