How about just buffing your nails...it lends a nice shine! BUT...a clear or nearly clear polish will help protect your nails from water....it's not as noticeable as a color, but will keep your nails stronger than without anything!
I stumbled across a historical article that mentioned tinted nail buffing paste. I wonder if such products are still available...or if I could make some.

Agree -- a professional high buff shine on nails keeps them strong and healthy. A coat of OPI nail strengthener is also a good idea. For a nail buffing paste, use a dab of cocoa butter.
BUT...if your nails are thin...buffing will make them thinner.
They're not thin. Just a little beat up from remover. And I'm excited today because while this isn't a wax I believe I found a dupe for a $30 bottle of polish.
Doubt that ... buffing doesn't make them thinner, makes them shine. Brings out the natural oil in the nail.
My sister and I have very thin bendy nails. She buffed and her nails started cupping, and tearing, because buffing thins nails...a small amount, mind you..but when you don't have much nail to begin with...buffing is bad.
