Well, I think socks have their place. For casual wear it's no biggie to go with NO socks. What's the big deal? Lots of women don't wear socks either. Why do you feel wearing socks is mandatory?

It's not laziness, it's a style choice.

It's been a trend for a while for younger men to wear "no show" socks with shorts, so maybe the trend is carrying over into dressier occasions.

It's a continental look that trickled over into prep circles back in the day and now is showing up again.

It's more of a casual look, though. I would never advise a man to go sockless when he is sitting on a panel like in the links you posted. There's too much emphasis on the ankle and it stands out in a bad way.

It takes a confident man to do it, though, or one who doesn't care about people commenting on their choices.

i wear no socks or no-show socks everywhere except work or more formal personal occasions or if im wearing boots in cooler weather.

Outside of work, weather im wearing jeans, chinos, or shorts it's usually no socks or no show socks.

It's a look that Chris Pine has been very partial to lately. He like Louboutin loafers, which are meant to be worn without socks. Definitely not a laziness thing.

I suspect they are just wearing no show socks, which are have been widely popular with athletic/running shoes for several years now, and the 'no visible sock' look is trickling into casual and semi-formal style.

It doesn't bother me, but if I stop to think about it (which I rarely do), I suspect that their shoes really stink.

The point of sock is to catch the sweat and skin oils on fabric that is easily washed instead of letting it soak into the shoe leather.

I am not sure it is true that many women don't wear socks. I think that maybe what you are thinking is sockless is a pair of Peds, if not nylons.
