Hmm, I believe my DH who has buttoning his own shirts for 70 years, buttons from the top down. What you heard on the radio is nonsense. It is true that men's shirts button from the different side than women's do, but that has nothing to do with how you button.

I button up a shirt just like a button up (and zip up) a jacket/coat.
