for purposes of this thread, i assumed fashion = style. hence my 8/10 with the clarification that I enjoy fashion as a creative outlet. If we're solely talking brands and trends then yes im not as interested in showing off brands and mix in some trends sparingly with my overall style.

Oh man, thanks for the chuckle. That reminded me of someone.
Oh yeah, I'm a 7 down from a 9 now that I'm older.

I would put myself as probably a 7. I'm not like crazy obsessive but I like getting newer fashions and making sure I look good when I can.
I think there's a difference between dressing well and following the "latest fashion." Certainly the "latest fashion" has nothing to do with looking good.

I try to dress well, but I mostly stick to classics and don't waste time or money on trendy things. And when fashion takes a bad turn, like a period when coats were shorter, I stopped buying altogether. So in terms of fashion mattering, I'd say I was a 2. In terms of trying to look good, I'd say I was a 7.

Probably a 3 now. Most of the time I'm in nice jeans or shorts with cute tops. When I worked in corporate America back in the '80's and '90's, it was probably a 7.

One reason why I'm not into fashion anymore is because over the past 15 years or so, I think most of the new styles are either unflattering to most or just plain blah. Fortunately, fashion styles finally seem to be improving. Unfortunately, many of the clothes I see at stores now are of poor quality.

I sew and enjoy things like the feel of the material. One of the reasons I enjoy watching shows like "Downton Abbey" is because the wardrobes are interesting and different. I'd kill for Lady Mary's beautiful blue coat that she wore when having her naughty weekend at a hotel!

Like some other posters, I blend fashion and style pretty closely. Also, for me, there is a difference between my interest in fashion and style and my execution of it. My level of interest has always been high; I would rate it an 8-9. When in my teens and 20's I modeled in NY and this was following in the footsteps of my mother. For me it was not a career but got me through grad school.

So, I've always followed fashion and enjoy it. The Project Runway variations, So Cosmo, some magazines, Fashion Police, the NYT Style section, etc. Sure, some of it is trivial and even laughable. But I certainly don't execute it at the 9 level. I realize that not all trends are right for me. I have my perception of my style type and try to stay current within those limits. I would say I execute it at about a 7.

I'm in my early 60s...I'd say a 2 or 3. I like to look nice but as long as I'm clean, my clothes are clean, and I'm comfortable, it really doesn't matter much to me.

Well, the last three pair of shoes I bought were muck boots, rock climbing shoes and hip waders- so, I guess you can put me in the "functional" category rather than the "fashion" category. A minus 1?
