What's your opinion about guys carrying tote bags? I find it very functional and very fashionable, but I notice there seem to be a lot of close minded "macho" rednecks here that seem to think that it's "gay" for a guy to carry one. I seriously think America is so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to these kind of things, and I'm getting a bit annoyed at how ignorant and rude some of the people here can be.

I think they are quite functional. And if it works for you, then wear them. Who cares what other people think? The phrase "haters gonna hate" comes to mind. Shrug it off and do your thing.

I can't imigine ever needing to carry around so much stuff as to need a tote bag, but that's just me. If you want to do it, do it and don't bother with other people's opinions.

With that said, if you do care what strangers think then you better leave your bag at home because there definitely is a perception that goes along with them.

Saw lots of men with the over shoulder tote type bags when we lived in Italy. Not sure if it's still happening as that was in the early-mid 80's. I suppose it can be quite functional. Beats putting your checkbook, glasses or whatever else on store counter and forgetting it.

Probably the same reason guys don't wear fanny packs either. Wear what you want but don't expect anyone else to think you are "cool".

It is definitely a European thing, and still very much exists over here. My husband has a bag he wears for work that has his papers, laptop, etc. it's also his travel bag. He doesn't take places outside of work. As a woman, I can say it did get old having your husband always say "can you put this in your purse?"

I'm with you in that I don't need to carry that much stuff on a regular basis. However, if you're carrying a Maxpedition type bag with your daily carry in it, then it's cool.

I've stopped wearing my tiara to the gym for the exact same reason.

Or just don't expect most people to be very intelligent. I don't see women wearing fanny packs either.
