I was always told not to do this because if you don't stretch it enough it can ruin your foot. (hello corns and bunions!)
Anyway I wondered if any of you tried stretching and were fine. 8-8.5 fits my heel but 9's are needed if there is a small toebox but that always leaves the heel too wide and I walk out of them. My measure I wear a 8.75 but they don't exactly make that.
I have only used the stuff it full of paper + stretch or old fashion wooden stretchers. I want to try this ice trick. Its cheaper than buying shoe stretchers!
I wrote a Tip of the Day in the OT forum about this a week or so ago. They suggested using freezer bags filled with water. Put them inside of your shoes. Put the shoes in another bag to put in the freezer. When the water in the bags inside of your shoes turns to ice, it stretches the shoes without harming them. Then you can take the shoes out, defrost, remove freezer bags and there you go! I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a great idea.
OR....I could've watched the video BEFORE I posted.
I think it depends on the shoes. I wouldn't recommend it with synthetic shoes or shoes that aren't your true size. However, Leather shoes can stretch after a few wears. I have a few leather shoes that are my correct size, and I had to stretch them out. I originally contemplated getting them in a bigger size; but I read others had bought larger sizes only to find when they became "worn in", they were too long/loose. Some shoes, mainly Aldo, will come with plastic pieces that help stretch the shoe. Wear them around the house for a few days, and you'll notice they'll loosen and become true to size.
I perfer to air jordans. It offers players all the key elements of basketball with a Jordan twist. Full grain leather upper...air jordans also cheap.

Just buying the right size won't guarantee a good fit if your foot is not perfectly average. I have very long toes, a narrow heel, a normal width foot. I just can't wear pumps, there is never enough room for my toes and I refuse to turn my nice straight toes into the sorts of hideous contorted things I see most women pull out of their shoes, ick. To stretch a toe box I think the best thing is the old fashioned wood stretchers. They are perfectly shaped and apply even pressure. If the shoes are leather you can speed this along by using mink oil on the inside before you use the stretcher, then later remove the residue with saddle soap.
