Colorado is a casual place. It isn't about dressing up spandex. It's about not having to dress up.

Comfort.

Being "active" through out the day, which may or may not include an actual "work out"

More likely to actually workout if already dressed for it

Less frumpy than many jeans-based outfits.

I think it's just comfortable & easy. I know for me, I would look weird being dressed up for the errands I run typically. I don't have an outside job anymore & I don't go out clubbing, I go to the post office & walgreens LOL.

That said, I also live in CO, so part of it is just fitting in. I remember being at one of the nicer outdoor malls & I saw a woman in a Chico's Travelers pantsuit. Travelers pants, flyaway jacket & shell. She looked very nice, but it looked SOOOO
dressy for CO (even though it really wasn't) that it was VERY out of place.

I LOVE dressing up, but pretty much gave up on it when I moved here b/c it just doesn't fit in, nor does my lifestyle require it anymore.

SPANDEX - It's a privilege, not a right.

I only wear active wear for working out/dancing/exercising. Otherwise I personally find it uncomfortable and far prefer my sundresses and sandals (I am in Florida). Also, wearing all that tight spandex is really not healthy for certain female body parts (friction, constriction, lack of air)

I am sure this "look" is more prevalent in certain areas of the country.

I wear leggings on the weekends. They are super comfortable.

There is really a 'War on Women' beginning in America, and some of the most effective warriors will be the millions of uptight, frumpy, conservative women that are afraid or indoctrinated against claiming a more progressive femininity. I fully expect to see threads decrying legally mandated dress codes for women across America, but by then it will be far too late. At least I had a few decades of being able to see the regular occurrence of hotties in yoga pants out and about. I wonder which will be more healthy for feminine body parts, spandex or carbon fiber body armor...
