Hi,

I was looking to buy a hat from Kohls and it showed one hat provides UV protection and another UPF 50+.

Do both mean the same?

Hi There,

I'm certainly not an expert, but between the two I would choose the UPF 50+. The "UV Protection" could be an SPF of 4, like wearing a t shirt, while the other will provide substantial, all day sun protection.

You might check out companies like Solumbra, or Coolibar, they sell sun protective fabric hats and clothing. Having lived in Colorado and now Florida these items are staples in our wardrobes as well as good sunscreen. Looking around I wish I'd have become a dermatologist, the sun damage people around here are sporting is epic.
