The salon I've gone to for years is now mostly doing gel nails. The last time I went they really persuaded me to do gels saying they never do anything else anymore. I wouldn't let my daughter get them but I buckled, got them and it was awful and ruined my nails. They had an attitude about not doing gels. Are most places focusing only on gel nail manicures now?

I've never been to a salon that only does gels. All the ones I go to still offer traditional manis and pedis.

Do you mean gels v. acrylics? If so, see if they do dip nails, which are more like the acrylics.

They definitely push the gel manicures now.... I like them for their staying power (especially the pedicures - those can last a month or more), but yeah, they wreak havoc on my nails. I only get them done a few times a year.

They don't make money on regular mani/pedi

If you are happy with regular polish that is what you get. If they have an attitude about it, go somehwere else. Gel or dip nails aren't "better" for your nails than regular polish. They last longer-that is it.

Yes they and several customers present at the time said that gels last longer. But they didn't. They chipped a week later, and it's very evident when they chip. I should have gone back but with the attitude they had I won't ever go back there again. So I just kept filing my nails shorter and shorter whenever they cracked. Than to have to go back and get it removed, what a time waster unless you are getting nails done again.

You can take gel nails off at home. Use 100% pure acetone. What you do is file off the shiny top coat from the nail first then you soak your nails to remove the polish-with the help of a nail stick, if needed.

Agreed. I have always managed to remove gel polish at home, have never had it removed by the salon.
