I'm going to be starting a new job shortly and it is a very casual place. When I went for the interviews everyone was in jeans and t-shirts. I like to wear skinny pants but would they be okay in a workplace like this? I was thinking that I would pair them up with nice tops so not to risk looking trashy. The ones I own are also made of good fabric so they don't look super cheap. Any insights?

As long as you have the appropriate body type for skinny pants, there's no problem. (and I'm saying that as a plus sized woman who is body heavy and has no business wearing skinny pants) Just make sure they're not so skinny and tight that they appear to be painted on.

Skinny pants are fine assuming they are work weight and not skin tight. Wear the work appropriate top as well. Cigarette pants are great.

I have worn skinny pants to work and I wear a size 16. Hasn't been an issue. I work in dressier places and I am generally complimented on my clothing choices.

My rule of thumb is as long as your are not dressed the most casual. When new I usually aim for dressing more professional. Then adjust if needed to what everyone else is wearing. I always adjust what I am wearing to what I am doing after work. For example if going to a concert after work I wear something I can flip in to appropriate for a concert with as few adjustments as possible. If planning to go for a long walk after work I was dress in something that would work for that too.

I would wear a nice tunic on top, so it's not too casual. I'm not sure I could bring myself to go to work in jeans and a T-shirt. I guess it depends on what type of work, and the rest of the work environment. Mentally, I still haven't transitioned to the ultra-casual workplace look.

My DIL, who is a professional, wears them to work. She is very thin.

Stay away from skin tight until you are more familiar with the workplace culture. But skinny jeans are universally worn now. Surely they would be OK in a casual workplace. But at first err on the side of discretion until you feel comfortable about what is done at that workplace.

As long as you're not my co-worker Bob who shows up to meetings and likes to stand up and talk and show everyone his anatomy through his skinny jeans.
