However, what may have killed IZOD's women's line was their small retail footprint. Other than online retailers, I do believe the only stores that sold IZOD's women's line were Sears and the IZOD outlets. With the closure of the IZOD outlets and the poor financial condition of Sears, that may have played a role in the discontinuation of the women's line.
Have you seen the variety in the Ralph Lauren line? MUCH more design involved there. That's why they've done better than IZOD. Same for Nautica.

They didn't fail because of a small retail footprint. They had a small retail footprint because there was no demand for their clothing.

I wasn't aware that this happened, but I'm sure I know why.
Someone heard that their polo shirts fit me perfectly. Any product that I like, usually gets discontinued immediately.

.
Are you talking about the main Ralph Lauren line or the Chaps line? The Chaps line is the line that IZOD competes most directly with in terms of price and style.

I have an additional theory ... IZOD seemed to rely heavily on polo shirts, whereas their competitors branched out much more. Here's the problem with polos ... I think women have started to hate them. Any time there's need for a promotional business casual shirt (with an embroidered logo), businesses default to a "unisex" polo. The problem is, it's not a "unisex" shirt, it's really just a men's shirt. So women have been forced to wear these boxy shapeless shirts, with shoulder seams that come down to approximately their mid-bicep, and baggy sleeves that come to their elbows. Now many of the promotional apparel companies have caught on and are offering women's styles, but the companies ordering the shirts are still too cheap to order women's styles for the women, and still resort to the "unisex" versions.

I admit it, I'm pretty damn resentful, and I bet a lot of other women are too. This phenomenon has caused me to hate polos altogether.

Doesn't matter. Because Ralph Lauren branched out, they took away the market share. Women looking for casual wear are going to the company that offers more variety. Very few women are as narrow focused as you are.

Yes, for years IZOD has focused marketing efforts on its polo shirts and golf clothing, however, in recent years IZOD has more aggressively marketed its button-down shirts, particularly those from the Advantage and Saltwater collections. Those from the Advantage collection have features such as non-iron fabric, while those from the Saltwater collection are supposed to feel more comfortable.

As of 2015 IZOD no longer makes or sells women's clothing other than golf clothing.
Well if it was sold in Sears, right there is your answer! Sears sells old lady clothes from 1983. I know old ladies - grandmothers, aunts - who won't shop at Sears because they clothes are sooooooooo old lady looking.

Many people don't live anywhere near an outlet so how would they buy them? Go to Sears?

Polo shirts and button down shirts is not a lot of variety when talking about women's fashion.

Interestingly, Sears never carried the men's IZOD line. The men's IZOD line is sold mainly at JCPenney, Kohl's, Belk, and some Macy's stores. Bealls Florida is also an official IZOD retailer, but they are only in Florida.

Note that the IZOD outlets closed around the same time IZOD announced the discontinuation of the women's line, so the closure of the outlets may have played a role in the discontinuation of the women's line. Plus with Sears' financial condition, the women's line was no longer sustainable since there were no other retailers who were willing to sign on.

It's really not, though.
