It's not a big deal. Wear what you like.

I wore Essie's Eternal Optimist, a pale rose. The only reason I remember is a. Because it's a staple, I wear it frequently and b. the manicurist was aghast at my not doing a French manicure..."Why you not do the French?? in a disapproving heavy Russian accent.

TBH, I personally found French manicures to be a little cliché.

I would either wear a light, glossy shade or honestly, clear. I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't like French manicures (but love the pedicures oddly enough).

Depends on your personal style. I have seen some brides wear darker shades, it can be stunning depending on wedding colors and style. If you are going funky or non traditional this can be a great look. Otherwise, I would go with a French mani, or a maybe very soft pink pearlescent. OPI Rosy Future, for example.

Some tell me not choose the deep colors, is that right?

I never paint my nails. But I went with dark blue. Worked for me. Looked awesome.

I almost did the typical french manicure but it felt wrong, on me, because it's not really who I am.

Go look at Pinterest or Google "Wedding nails". There are a lot of really pretty ideas that won't clash with your dress, but aren't as traditional either if you're wanting something a little more personalized.
