I think they are fine if they fit well. Many jobs and occupations require khaki pants and often they are paired with athletic shoes. I do think that combo is unfortunate. I also think that there is less of this than there was 10 years ago.

I think a nice pair of khakis with a crisp white shirt is perfectly acceptable attire.

Fit is everything though.

Don't look and you won't have to cringe. Too many people worry too much about what others wear. But honestly, I personally never pay any attention to self-proclaimed clothing critics. I have a few pairs for hiking.

If you don't like a certain style for yourself, that's subjectively normal.

If you see others wearing something so mundane as khaki slacks (or, really, almost anything) and 'CAN NOT stand' it and it makes you 'cringe', then you have problems.

Seriously.

Its the Kohl's (or pick your retailer) effect.

I have Khaki colored pants that are elegant, but they are tailored to fit me.

Lots of guys wear them like they would blue jeans and it does no one any favors.

But, the pair that your wife buys you in size 38-32 off the rack when you're really a 37-31 or 40 30 are necesarily going to look mediocre.

Socks with sandals is this fall's hottest look. I'm going to be all on that.

I love to wear Khakis that are form-fitting and have a boot cut to them. I think the boxy Khakis worn too big aren't that attractive, but I like Khakis that fit on both men and women.
