Anyone own a collection of Louis Vuitton Bags?
I am have a few pieces and just wondering if anyone else has a collection.
My pieces are vintage.
Are these bags still very popular in your area?
Any advise regarding how to maintain them or repair minor damages?
I'm one of those people, who just on principal alone, would never buy or even carry a designer bag if it was given to me for free. I also have no idea what a Louis Vuitton bag looks like. Now if it was a very good quality and price (like on eBay) and their brand name wasn't visible anywhere I might consider it.

LV has a lot of bags with varying degrees of logo subtlety. The most subtle are the most expensive - and are significantly more expensive.
LV is not my brand for a myriad of reasons. I do think the bags you are likely to see on the street are the ones that are most obviously branded. They either have the monogram or the trademarked checker board pattern.
I do have lots of mid-priced designer bags like Coach. While there is a perception that Coach bags are covered in logos, that's not the case for the ones I own. I got coach because my aunt had a bag that lasted 20 or 25 years and it was her only bag. She replaced it and I think the replacement is on year 20 now. That seemed like a worthwhile reason to get a more expensive bag to me.
Today I am carrying a Coach bag. It is black leather in an interesting shape. There is a visible logo - Coach is written out in gold stenciling in about a 5-6 point font. I'd consider that pretty discreet.
I also have a much more expensive bag from Ferragamo. I wanted a much nicer bag and it is super luxurious. This one has signature hardware and if you look closely you'll see the brand name / logo on some of the hardware. It is not even remotely ostentatious.
I like "designer" bags. They generally last longer and on certain ocassions it is important to signal appropriately. So I spend more for both reasons. It is also probably more advantageous for me to use my purse as a signifier. I have had plenty of experiences that confirm this so I keep doing it.
Without spending too much time on race and identity stuff. For me, as a black woman, there is a common assumption that you are poor. Happens all the time. In a crappy sales interaction, if I ask to look at something behind a case or whatever, the sales person will tell me the price. And fish out the price immediately. I haven't touched it, asked any questions or really anything. But they want to put that out there immediately. ITs rude in my book. I never buy anything from those sales people (or stores) depending on the place.
I know sales people profile based on accessories. Purses are one of those shortcuts for women (in addition to jewelry and the like).
It also works at work. I know I have shared this story in other threads. But many jobs ago there was a senior woman at the company who was generally a little standoffish and not very helpful towards me. One day, I had a Coach bag and her whole demeanor changed. Literally she was nice, helpful, asked me for shopping tips and so on. I was suddenly "on her level" even thought I was junior. She was never very friendly to other women in the office, but she was supportive of me and giving me visible projects.
So you use your bag and accessories to signal a certain level of status. And I find it absolutely impacts how I am treated in many environments. For me it is a good investment. I'll never know directly if it helps me get jobs and stuff but it doesn't hurt to help people make better assumptions about me.
