I suffer from clumsy big feet that seem to collide with everything! Even when I'm careful, I'm always shocked at the number of scuff marks that damage my shoes. These are not easily camouflaged with shoe shine products and seem to be permanent damage. Do they make shoes with an extra tough layer to combat these type of marks?

I don't know what your shoes are scuffing on, but most of those marks should be removable. The higher the gloss, the more maintenance it takes to keep leather looking good. Do you have a good shine kit? You can never really get rid of some scuff marks, but you can make them look much better by applying colored polish on scuffed areas, and wax on top of that.

After a while, the accumulation of these scuff marks will make the shoes look old, and they will have to be replaced or repaired. Depending on the price you paid, most shoes today are disposable.

The only other possibility is to go with a dress shoe that is more of a matte finish, those require less time to maintain.

You I could try wearing nubuck shoes. You maintain them with a brush, which you can often buy when your buy the shoes.

The next time you purchase a new pair of shoes make sure that the sole sticks out a little further than the toe of the shoe so it will act like a bumper and you will hit that and not the toe part of the shoe. It's something that you would never ever notice if you weren't looking for it- but it does make a difference.

Exotic leather, such as elephant or shark doesn't scuff and last many years. They're really expensive though.

What kind of shoe shine products are you using?

Applying a full wax followed by a buffing is the only way to do it. Anything else is not going to make a difference.

Nubuck or suede is an option, but smooth leather, polished , is the way to go for a professional look.

Rotate your footwear daily, thats how you keep it looking new.

Yeah, I was going to write: get a good shoe shine kit and finish with a good coat of wax.

When I was a little girl, one of my jobs was to keep my dad's boots and shoes cleaned and polished.
