The hair! I'd put a towel on my head and toss it around so I could pretend I had hair like Cher.
I was so mad when she got her teeth done. I loved her old teeth.
And her old nose! And her old lips! She was so exotically beautiful -- everything was in proportion. And yes, she had the cutest smile with that one wonky canine tooth. I could not believe when she got her nose and teeth done -- her signature looks -- then started with the lip fillers. She looks like a drag queen version of herself now.

I know, I loved all her real features, like you said, exotic beauty - what a shame. She does look like a tranny version of herself now sad to say.
I'm not a fan of the first look with the heavy eyeliner, but regardless, I DO love eye makeup and have since I was a kid. I am very fair, with blue eyes and blonde lashes, so I look COMPLETELY different (and not in a good way) without eye makeup. Picture Tilda Swinton. I have always envied women with brown eyes and dark lashes, because they can go sans makeup and not look completely dead. Years ago, I got permanent eyeliner tattooed on and it was the best thing I ever did (as far as looks go). My favorite eye makeup look of all time was Twiggy in the 60's with the "cut crease" and painted lower lashes.
I have the blonde eyelashes too. When I put on mascara they suddenly appear My sister has hers dyed, have you considered this?
As to the Twiggy look, I used to do that look as a teen in the UK, was such fun!

I have blonde eyelashes too, so just mascara makes a HUGE difference.
I see what you mean, OP. I guess I should have been wearing makeup all these years. But I've never seen makeup be so transformational as it is on these tutorial vids. Never seen that IRL. Though IRL, I've never known any women who wore makeup; not among my friends or relatives.
I definitely have. It can be super transformational. When I go all in on makeup I look like a different person.
I don't wear makeup daily, and when I get a bit more dressed up I usually put on a bit of mascara, eye liner and a lipstick. I don't do much face coverage, I generally think my skin looks pretty good. On an extra fancy night I'll add foundation and powder.
What I find most transformative is the concealer. When I add concealer and some smoky eye shadow I look like a Bratz doll.
I never left my home without makeup years ago especially of course when I was working. Today I wear very little. I wear a little smoky eye shadow w/ mascara, Intellishade® Original (Revision)
anti-aging tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, and a bit of concealer under eyes. Favorite lipstick - Hot Gossip by MAC. I never go out of my house without lipstick on.
Couple of years ago I let a make up artist at Ulta fix my face up for a evening wedding we were attending. I cried and was in tears when I walked out of there. I looked like a clown. Got home, took it off and did my own make up.
When you get older - less is more. Sometimes, very rare, I use a little pencil on my lids.

ITA. I wore makeup all throughout my 20s & 30's & it certainly can be very transformational & that's even without knowing how to contour, etc. Then in my late 30's I only wore it when I went to customer sites b/c my office was super casual, then when I retired just before 40 & now in my 50's, I never wear it unless I'm going to a party or something. I have a little home based business & my days consist of going to the post office & the grocery store, it just seems weird. Plus I live in one of the most casual states in the country, so I rarely see people with makeup.
Nowadays, when I put it on for a party or evening out, I feel so weird with it on (I look totally different), that I feel like a clown, so I've settled for no foundation, maybe a light powder just to even out skin tone & then I only do my eyes & nothing else. Anything else just feels clownish to me. Yet, it's the same makeup I used to wear every day LOL. It's funny, but I was participating in a forum where several people posted their no-makeup look & how they normally went out with what they considered "light" makeup. Without fail, I thought they looked better with no makeup. I think the outdoor, casual lifestyle of CO has affected me, so that anything beyond mascara seems "made up". I still remember fondly the days of my youth, with 6 different colors on my eyelids (I remember the eyeshadow used to have a minimum of 3 for different parts of your lid), full eyeliner, lash curling, 3 coats of mascara, etc. I thought it looked good at the time. Maybe it did LOL, that was the 80's, but now it just seems to dressy to me, to wear almost any. I'm lucky that the men in my life have all loved the truly natural, no makeup look, b/c I'm just not willing to take the time to do it anymore & since it's sunny here all the time, my eyes are hidden by sunglasses when I'm out
