I think they are but I heard this guy say "I hate Flannel Friday" when it was a Friday. And I pointed at his shirt and said "aren't you wearing flannel?" And he said "This is plaid". SAME THING??!

Flannel is a type of fabric. Plaid is a pattern. You can have flannel with a plaid pattern but they are not the same thing.

Yepper. Flannel is warm and cozy. Plaid doesn't have to be, but it can be.

Nope.

Flannel is not always in a plaid print, and not all plaid patterned material is flannel fabric.

And if you're around someone who wants to be Scottish and also pedantic: plaid is also a fabric, and tartan is a pattern.
