I love this.

The contestants, rather than citing the statistics of their body measurements, instead cited statistics about violence against women.

Please.

Shouting out stats on violence against women in Peru was no magnanimous decision by contestants. It was started by pageant coordinators, and the broadcasting network approved. How ironic that, had any of those contestants (with their hair extensions fluffed and their well-exposed gams greased to perfection), objected in order to focus on their appearance, they wouldn't have been able to.

One of the journalists, herself, pointed out the hypocrisy, given the fact that these pageants are....well, we know what they are, despite a perfunctory nod to current events. It was also pointed out that this particular station which aired the pageant also broadcasts more than its fair share of programming depicting violence towards women.

Not surprisingly, they have a thing to say about that.

So you think that it's wrong to denounce violence toward women unless you can do so with an absolutely pure heart and no conflicto whatsoever in your background? With that standard, no one take well-meaning action at all.
