Capris and short(ish) skirts past 35?
OK- Summer is coming and I will be the big 40 this July. Just heard one of Oprah's fashion Nazis outlawed capri style pants for those over 40 and Staci and Clinton already have their "no mini- skirts past 35" law. Now, ladies, my busom is past its glory, by 26" waist is now low 30 something, but when I work out, my legs are truly nice. At least from the mid thigh down. Why must I make sure my skirts come down to the knees instead of a little higher, and why cant I wear my cute Ralph Lauren trouser or my Old Navy cargo style Capris this Summer? I am a tasteful, relatively fit gal ? What gives? Are the fashionistas afraid that I will don a stonewashed micro mini or dowdy Capris that look like polyester cruisewear? Why can't they trust women to assess their own figures and tastes and make good choices instead of issuing these mandates? Of course I will still be wearing what I think works for me. What do the rest of you think?

I'd tell the folks who are so fond of telling US what to wear...that they're all wet!
I'm way past forty. I wear capris and think they're the cat's pajamas No short skirts for me but if you have the legs...go for it. Do what feels right to you!!

I really thinks on how they look on you! If you look good, wear them! I for one am going to be 40 this year; and by all means; I am wearing both!

I am no fashionista, nor am I very trendy. I likes what I likes and I don't likes no more.
I have never like capris on anyone, including 8 year olds. I think they look silly on everyone.
If you have the figure for it and the face and attitude for the attention, then I think minis can go beyond 35, but somewhere around 45-50 nearly all women loose that ability or attitude, or both.
I have seen some attractive women in their 20's that cannot carryoff a mini and some in their 40's that it looks so natural on.
Appearances are comparative for male purposes only. Your mileage may vary.

I don't agree with the 35 cut off point, but I did see a 50+ yr old woman who had great legs, but despite that, looked totally ridiculous in a mini skirt. There's a balance that must be reached, so maybe just go a little longer every 5 years or so.
I think capris look good on everyone.

I second that...totally!
Kept on hearing about the "no mini skirt past such and such age".......Just who the heck made THAT up?
I am somewhat athletic and toned (legs especially), and without sounding "full of myself", look better then some girls 1/2 my age!
(Going to the beach here in Florida is a real eye opener....and so soothing for the self esteem, I might add.....LOL.....my "therapy" for getting older....huh.
I look ok in all of them, but, feel better, more comfortable and "secure" in shorts.
My personal favorite? Skorts...best of both worlds.

I'll be 55 this June...I love capris and crops...my legs are like jelly so I have not worn a pair of shorts for the last 3 or 4 years, but nice cotton-y capris keep me cool.
I think it's whatever looks good on you, and makes you feel good. We get many, many days of 100+ temps in the summer, I have to wear something besides jeans and pants...

I remember the days when skirts were all a girl could wear to school. Kids today....they're SO lucky. I think I'll REALLY enjoy reaching the age when I don't CARE what other people think and I can wear bright orange mini-skirts with purple tank tops and get a couple more tattoos!!
Not quite there yet.

My mother is in her early 40's and she still wears shorts above her knee. Though, she's like 6'0 and weighs next to nothing. She's a blue collar worker and works out all the time... so she has a really sculpted body.
If you've got the body and attitude for your clothes..... wear them and be happy.

I am 16 and I say that if you look good in something then there is no reason for you not to wear it! Oprah is totally wrong when she said that. She is just jealous because she can't wear mini skirt's anymore. :] Go ahead! Wear as many mini skirts as your heart desires!
