I thought this was just a fad when it started several years ago, but looks like it is here to stay. So I've just got to ask: what statement are they making? I understand they are/can be bright, big, glittery, bold, ornate. But what is the statement? Is someone who dons one bright, big, glittery, bold, ornate? Or is just something that appeals to them aesthetically?

And they look really heavy. Does anyone here wear one? I think my neck would ache from all that weight, but I only wear very lightweight jewelry.

It also seems that one would get very tired of them quickly, as opposed to a less flamboyant piece...

"What Is the Statement?"

I like to wear hideous things because others are doing it

They are even worse than those ugly black framed big glasses. Really do people think the look good in them.

I don't take the term "statement jewelry" so literally. It's just another term for "bold" jewelry.

IMO, a statement necklace can save an outfit from looking plain. Some necklines seem to scream for a statement type necklace. Something bold. For instance (again, my opinion) a crew neckline is plain, and could use a bold necklace. Or a boat neck.

And some people will use a bold necklace to deflect attention away from say...a double chin.

Well, that's a matter of tastes, right? What you'd consider ugly, I might think I'm rocking it. And vis a vis. lol

I like wearing bold chunky jewelry in the summer time when I wear more open neck tops. not really making a statement, or maybe I am but I'm not realizing it. I just like it I suppose. Maybe it's because I have really short hair and like my neckline. I don't know, never gave it much thought lol

That fad is over unless you are speaking about a Squash Blossom.
