I also have to wash my hair daily or it gets too oily and nasty, not to mention it would itch like hell!

I NEVER wash my hair ever.

I condition it in the shower about once a week but my hair is very curly, and coarse and I straighten it and color it.

My hair never gets oily.

My stylist said that the best thing for your hair was the goop your scalp grows.

I'm in this boat, too. Some people have the kind of hair and scalp that look fine and may actually benefit from not washing it very often. I have fine hair and oily skin, so my hair looks and feels like I've rubbed mayonnaise on my head about halfway through day two. And it's not because I've "stripped the oils," etc.

I had a coworker who was convinced that I washed my hair too frequently. I told her that it was absolutely necessary to wash it every day. She just knew that it couldn't be as bad as I thought and that I should start skipping a day or two.

Fast forward to our staff retreat. We were staying in a large mountain house, and I went into the kitchen to get coffee while all the showers were occupied. She was in the kitchen and we started chatting. At one point she said "So I see you've stopped washing your hair every day. How is that working out for you?" I asked her what she meant, and she said that obviously I hadn't washed my hair for a few days. I assured her that I had washed my hair just the morning before. She was astounded. LOL

That's better than "scalpy".

Just like chemical smell in your pits is better than BO.

No, I am not going to stop using shampoo. I feel like it is the same as if you would tell someone to stop using soap.
It gets dirty--period. Just as your skin gets dirty.

I did switch to Living Proof hair products--love them. They do keep my hair cleaner longer. "Dirt" doesn't stick to it as easily. I wash my hair every three days.

There are different types of hair. For people who can go days in between shampoos, that's great for them

For me, I'll be washing every day. I sometimes can stretch it to skipping one day, but even that is pushing it.

Yep mine too. It becomes uncomfortable. It's like my scalp hurts. I read that it's the oil around the follicles

I believe it is what type hair you have and even your age. When I was young (20s) I had to wash my fine straight hair every day. As I have gotten older (now 68) my hair become much dryer and even developed a little wave. I go every other day or every two days now (about 3 times per week). I had switched to shampoo bars (all natural) but also alternate with rye flour believe it or not - it does a great job without stripping oils. I mix some rye flour with water and add a dollop of natural conditioner and use that as shampoo - love it!

As a teenager I washed my hair daily....in graduate school (who had the time?!) every other day...in my 40's twice a week...now weekly. Age definitely makes a difference - both in terms of time to do it and time for all the daily styling needed but also in terms of hormones and oiliness. When you get older you don't usually have as much oil and you definitely aren't wanting to dry, curl, style, or whatever all the time.

I use a small amount of texturizing product after I wash my hair and "refresh" it in the morning with a bit of water - but I wash and condition weekly and that is more than enough - no oil, no itch, no smell.
