You could make mittens from them... wash in very hot water & dry in dryer first to make a boiled wool type close fabric, then cut out & sew with machine. You could line the pattern up so the sweater bottom becomes mitten cuff.
If they were expensive, good quality comfortable sweaters I mend them. If the mending is invisible I wear them as usual. If the mending doesn't come out invisible then I won't wear them in public but I'll wear them around the house or under my work jacket when I'm doing garden work in colder weather.

I saw something on Pinterest where you can make mittens out of old sweaters and give them as gifts. Might be nice for children.
Or baby booties or pet booties.
Are the sweaters 100% wool? You can "felt" them (instructions on the internet) and make things from the felt. I made some great Christmas ornaments once from felted wool.
If the sweaters are acrylic, toss 'em. Not worth trying to repair.
