Much about comfort & support depends upon how that brand's last fits your foot. Look at Mephisto or Ahnu for more casual.
Another vote for Red Wing. I have worn them for years, both safety toe and regular.

When I worked at an aluminum reduction facility, we were required to wear high top (9 inches minimum, IIRC) lace-up boots. If you stepped in molten metal, they wanted to be able to get your boot off QUICK!
I have three pairs of Merrells. One is a hiking boot, one is a snow boot, one is a dress boot. I love my Merrells. Where I live I need waterproof, with good traction, and long lasting, they fit my needs wonderfully.
They make "work shoes" for restaurant workers, construction, nurse and hospital workers, and others who need sturdy, comfortable shoes.
