I was wondering, can anyone give examples of fading fashion brands that have lost a lot of popularity in recent years? Here are some that I can name:
Nautica - Sold by VF to Authentic Brands Group, future direction for the brand currently unknown, currently losing sales to brands from above and below.
Aeropostale - Filed for bankruptcy and acquired by Authentic Brands Group, nowhere near their prime from the early part of the 21st century.
Claire's - Currently in bankruptcy.
Charming Charlie - Went into and emerged from bankruptcy, closed over 100 stores.
Nine West - Went into bankruptcy and intellectual property acquired by Authentic Brands Group.
I don't consider those brands fading. Tommy Hilfiger is actually showing growth at PVH and is one of their best performing brands alongside Calvin Klein. I would probably say that one of PVH's weakest brands currently is ARROW. They seem to be making a comeback. As for Lacoste, you can still find their boutiques in many major airports worldwide.
My impressions of Claire's and Charming Charlies...
Claire's...to me (and I'm an older woman, so take that into consideration) it was too...childish. Too teenager. And not 'edgy' or 'cool' teenager...seemed geared for 12 to 14 yr. olds.
Charming Charlies...kind of expensive for essentially, costume jewelry. I DID buy a cool purse there though.
Lacoste is alive and well and the company bought it back from Izod and it is very healthy.

As for IZOD they have been in up and down phases. The 2014-2015 period was a hard time for the brand when they closed their standalone outlets and discontinued the women's line, but since 2016 they have been in recovery, and this year alone they have brought back the women's line (although licensed out), launched the StyleBureau.com website along with Van Heusen, and is now expanding to parts of Europe.
