For height 5'-8" the BMI normal weights span 125-163 lbs.
You are a slim man. If you lose any weight then you will be underweight.
'Petite' is a relative term and there is no exact standard for what constitutes petite. Petite is generally used to describe women, and the fashion industry considers petite as women under 5'-3". (Google)
No. Where did you get that word? Who called you "tiny"? You're 5'8", that's not "tiny". It's a good height, IMO. Don't worry about it. Ignore idiots and thoughtless people. Get on with life.
I have a suggestion for everybody, both men and women. Weigh yourself and then use a BMI calculator to calculate your BMI. Most people should have a BMI ('Body Mass Index') of between 19 and 24.
Within that range you should have a weight suitable to your phenotype. That means if you are 'big boned' you may be suited to the higher end. If you have a thin skeletal type you may be better suited to the lower end.
The best advice I can give is to diet and exercise to achieve a weight within the normal range (19-24) and then look at yourself and decide if you look fat, thin, or okay. Then continue diet and exercise until your body looks good to you.
Don't worry what people call you. Just be the best you that you can be. You cannot change your height but you can diet and exercise to any weight you desire. (In this context, diet means eat more or less depending on what direction you need to go.)

If you haven't done so already, I would consult your family physician for a true assessment of your physical condition. Don't bother with the haters or snide remarks. You certainly haven't complained about other health issues so only your doctor could advise you.
In the short term, you'll probably have to get tailored clothing or buy them with alterations...

These are the types of comments people make regarding my "size". They are not necessarily offensive but I do remember the remarks:
- when I get my clothes altered, they may say "Oh your legs are skinny" or "oh you have small waist"
- I was walking once in Downtown Chicago past a Black guy giving out music discs and I was wearing a Superman shirt and he says "Hey big guy, he's Superman" (ironic).
- passing someone at a grocery store, they may say "You can get by, you are so skinny"
- I have gotten a few old ladies think I'm a "boy" (I'm in my early 30s). That is how they have referenced me at work. I think they attribute that to my size.
- When I may have a casual hookup, they occasionally remark "Oh you are small" or "you are petite". I have gotten "you are tiny" a few times.
(It is usually coming from a favorable p.o.v in these cases)
Other thing is underwear.
I don't like boxers, I wear briefs
Adult briefs at the smallest sizes are too big for me (like there is too much slack).
So I do go to the children's department for that too (more like youth sizes).
I don't have a thin skin, I'm OK admitting that
Again, the comments people make as mentioned above don't necessarily offend me, but I do remember them.

These kinds of comments are called "microaggressions" because they are mostly negative comments that may not be SO bad one on one but over time they build up to detrimentally impact our self-image.
I would bet that everyone has this kind of thing they can refer to. People always seem to comment on extremes of any kind.
I do wonder why you posted this thread if you are ok with your body. It is easy to privately Google average sizes and body types etc, without subjecting yourself to random flyby comments from folks here.
IMHO the comments you get from hookups are completely different because there is a tendency to fetishize men of certain types and sizes in the gay community (i.e. twinks, bears etc)

Yes, if I was a straight male at this frame perhaps I'd have a Napoleon complex? Or at least I can imagine alot of rejection from women (and gay men) who are do not find small men attractive.
But that's another thread altogether

It's possible, but I know plenty of shorter men who don't have a Napoleon complex and don't have self-image problems.
There are people with so-called perfect bodies who still require constant affirmation. A strong sense of self worth is way more important to your quality of life than outside appearance.
