If I may stand in defense of JCP, their "Saint John's Bay" outdoor clothing line seems fine quality to me, and their cargo hiking shorts seem to be the only one's short enough not to bind or rub against my knees and kneecaps when hiking. They last forever, and when too worn for hiking, get allocated to paint/garden/landscape duty. The elastic waist cargo hiking pants a great item as well.

But hey, trash talk away...

The SJB clothes seem to be on sale or deeply discounted often, saving me money, so maybe y'all are having an influence...

For me, it's not even specifically about the clothing. I just had a SJB shirt that was at least 20 years old that I just threw out. Granted it wasn't an every day wearer, but that's still some good distance.

I'm sure we all have different experiences, but the JCP near me looks like I stepped back in time to the 1990's. The decor and lighting are way out of date, no signage and no idea where to pay for stuff.

Where most stores seem to keep clearance merchandise with like merchandise (i.e. all men's clearance shirts are in the men's department), the JCP near me has it all in one section. Just looks like a big going out of business sale in that portion of the store.

The problem with JCP is that they seem to have an identity crisis. They are higher end than a Walmart but lower than a Macy's, but the store looks like a Walmart from 1995. I think you can pretty much see the writing on the wall for JCP.
