One of the rednecks makes an explicit reference to Hopper's long hair and insinuates that it's feminine.
When the Beatles were first on the Ed Sullivan show my mother looked at their long hair, about 4 " lol, and men singing into the same microphone and thought they were ***** looking. times change.

Yea, very general, stereotyping, just my experience/thoughts.
Interesting, I can see that being the case. Would you also say that Southern rednecks are more accepting of heavy drinking and drug use compared to the plains ones?

Some of them may actually be old hippies. I've known a few like that. The look doesn't age well.

That didn't age well, either. It was all a train wreck. Of course, I speak only of specific individuals I have known. YMMV. I hope so, anyway.

what was a train wreck? long hair and a beard isn't a look for me, nor anyone I know, its part of our lifestyle, I don't much care if someone else dosent like the look, its my business what I look like and its none of theirs.

Sure. This is a movie. In the movies, they deal with STEREOTYPES as a storytelling device, oftentimes.

Good old boys are more about what they believe instead of what they look like. Lots of em also had polyester suits and hair below the ears in the 70s too, and listened to rock and roll. In the 60s and 70s, Teenagers in the South were wearing long hair, mullets, smoking pot ... and LOTS of them were rednecks despite what they looked like.

And it was the BELIEFS of hippies that truly separated them from other social groups - not their appearance. Lots of people didn't look like hippies, but they were hippies inside. And lots of people who looked like hippies, weren't.

No.

Plains states make up most of the top ten of this list of America's "drunkest" states:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...tes/406342002/

1. North Dakota
2. Wisconsin
3. Alaska
4. Montana
5. Illinois
6. Minnesota
7. Iowa
8. Hawaii
9. Nebraska
10. Michigan

Not sure what that has to do with Fashion/Beauty though.

You can't tell from appearances, lots of times. Hippies or rednecks? You be the judge.
