But 90's inspiration is showing up in current clothing trends again
That is a perfect representation of the change. Sure, it's more cutting edge than the average man wears, but the change over time is still very dramatic.

No way the rest of the world outside of hip hop-inspired NBA/NFL athletes and entertainment performers were wearing baggy suits at the turn of the century.

it doesn't change the fact that men's fashion has gone through several iterations of trends and styles since the 90s.

It still reflects trends, just like photos of women's clothing from a runway show. People aren't wearing those actual outfits on the street, but it does show changes over time in how designers update styles which influence what people do actually wear.
One thing is that some higher-end brands are trying to push slim fit clothes down our throats. That is why I stick with the brands that I trust and I know won't alienate their target audience.
IZOD has so far been a reliable brand that hasn't forced slim fit clothes. While they do have a line of slim-fit clothes, they haven't made it their default line since that is not what their main target audience wants.
