I would spend tens of thousands dollars (if I had the money) on many discretionary luxury goods. A Rolex is not one of them. High end watches are something I’m just not interested in.

Why pay that much for a watch when the cheapo I buy at Walmart that lasts for years (my dad bought one 5 years before he died in 2016 and it's still running fine) and they both tell me the same time. That's all I need a watch for.

Expensive and very overrated. A $50 Armitron from Sears can show you the time just as reliably (if not more so) than a $xK+ Rolex and you're not out much if it breaks or gets lost/stolen.

But, if you really have that much money to waste on bourgeois status ornaments, well then indulge yourself. Personally I'd save the money for something more necessary like emergencies or car repairs.

I'm a "watch guy" and I have a ridiculous number of fine watches. As the old saying goes, the nice thing about wearing a Rolex is that no matter what happens you can fly home from anywhere in the world. It takes one year to make a Rolex. Walmart watches, not so much.

Rolex's are not about telling time, lol. That is one, minor function they do, the other major function is they display a person's level of wealth for those interested.

My Timex tells time just as well as your Rolex.

Of course now with a clock on every cell phone I don't even need to wear a watch
