Yeah, it's lots of fun running a glass sliver into the bottom of your foot and breaking it off so you have to dig it out with a needle, or ripping your big toenail off when you misjudge where that door's going to open, or stepping in dog poo.

I used to go barefoot a lot as a kid, and something like the above happened to me almost every day in the summer. I finally gave up on it.

That article is from 2016. Seems like it never really did become a symbol of anything, actually

LOL. I'm pretty sure that article was a mocking spoof about pretentious elitists and wasn't intended to be taken seriously. Anyway, it certainly made me laugh.

All our neighborhood boys did too in the summer. The biggest hazard was stepping on a honey bee in the clover. The soles of your feet would take a couple of weeks to get used to it, but before long we could walk across hot asphalt streets in July without much pain.

Remember how Huckleberry Finn "was always the first boy that went barefoot in the spring and the last to resume leather in the fall". Sign of a free spirit, obviously.

Sure doesn't work for anybody who has high arches or who has had plantar fascitis. (sorry spelled wrong and spell check wants me to change it to fascists!) I used to run around barefoot all summer when I was a kid.

I've always been a barefoot kind of person.
I go out barefoot to the road to get the mail or put the trash out. I'm always barefoot or in socks only in the house.

Most of my friends do not wear shoes in the house.
I had no idea going barefoot is a thing now.

Umm, no, it isnít. I donít know anyone that prefers going barefoot in their daily life. While youíre at home, sure. Maybe walking in the yard, as long as you donít have a dog, sure. But generally, people prefer to wear shoes. Kind of a no brainer.
