I am probably late to the party and it is probably going out of fashion but I have finally found the right profile of leggings and tunics that suits me. The leggings I like are not form tight and fitting all the way down, like the way nylons fit (remember nylons and panty hose?) They have a bit of slack so they fall straight and narrow to the ankle.
I am having a hard time finding these. Often athletic wear has these, called joggers but I don't like the way they look for dressing up with. I have a few black knit leggings, that are soft without too much spandex.
Do you see these anywhere?
I actually have the LL Bean pants and I like them. But it does not quite have the same profile with a tunic that I like. When I look up joggers I get what I am looking for but I don't like the way they are cuffed. I have a black knit with a lace edge that lies flat against the ankle. This is actually a Junior Large, maybe even X-L and it fits the way I like.

Those aren't what is usually called "leggings". Leggings, by definition, cling to the leg. I wear them only to the gym or running in cold weather. Athleta has a lot of great selections in the type of pants I think you are looking for. You can find these elsewhere too of course, but Athleta is very good quality. I love their clothes.
Thank you all for the great suggestions. the nordstrom, althea, sites have the style I am looking for. the j crew is too skin tight for me. looks like i should focus on yoga pants ! thank you also for the pull on jeans suggestion, silibran. i have been avoiding them as i think of them as denim, not soft knit. I will try them.

I bought a pair at a reduced price at Dillards. I love them!
I'm going to add these pants as well. I bought both of these for my trip to Greece last year, and they are fabulously comfortable. REI has them, if you have one near by.
These are a sleeker fit - no pockets, but a really nice 2-way stretch. Very very comfortable.
That^^ pant has a looser fit leg (which I love) but they now also have the Halle in a true straight leg that you might prefer.
I have really wide calves so the slim-legged pants I find very uncomfortable. I have not tried this new version, but just wanted to mention it.
Yeah, what you're talking aren't really leggings, they're just slim-fit knit pants. Leggings, by definition, do not have a loose fit.
