I saw this challenge on youtube, NO SHOPPING FOR A YEAR & I thought to myself "that sounds interesting and a great way to use & abuse everything in my closet so I can start fresh next year".

Anyone try this? Was it hard?

I made the intention this year not to buy makeup or clothes until i fully exhaust everything i have. But its been tough & its only been 3 months. Technically winter was easy because snow made it hard to go out shopping. But now with Yellow being one of the seasonal color, which is my favorite color, I have been struggling. I did go shopping 2 days where I tried on bunch of clothes but didn't buy any. None were amazing but the old me would have purchased some of those items.

I've never done it but I doubt it would be that hard. I buy good clothes and keep them till they're no longer wearable, and I have a collection of T-shirts from corporate and athletic events that will last me a lifetime- so I'm covered for both every day and dressy occasions. So far this year I've spent $15 on socks at Costco and about $500 each of the last 2 years if you exclude a $500 pair of boots last year. Do they count?

That wouldn't work for me this year. I've been through my closet and drawers twice this year and have gotten rid of a lot of clothing. I'd been keeping things which were worn, didn't fit, or I wasn't wearing because I disliked them for one reason or another. There have been many years in the past when I could have easily gone without purchasing a thing.

This would work OK, if you had a stable wardrobe of good quality clothes at your disposal. But if you only have odds and ends, or your stuff is already old, it will be hard to like how you look. By the end of the year you might be wearing faded tees and ripped jeans.

It just depends on one’s present wardrobe.

Simply put, if you are a shopper, it will be hard to do. If you are not, it will be easy.

I buy when I fall in love with things and they make me happy.

I would not purposely not shop (I don't really shop in stores, mostly online) for some arbitrary reason or challenge.

On the flip side, I don't shop just to shop.

Actually, it would be really interesting to see if I could do it! It would be tough though because I LOVE shopping & go to malls a LOT.

I have a LOT of clothes now, so I'd definitely be alright to NOT buy any clothes for a year. I NEED to do this.

I've done it when my focus was on saving to buy a boat (younger days). Or when my focus was to pay off all debt including my mortgage, save and invest for the future. I'm glad I did because I've accomplished each. I realized that I could buy an entire wardrobe but I kept wearing my fav's. To do it set a goal(s), stay out of the malls, and off shopping sites (don't put temptation in front of you) and .
