Hi,
What are some of the most basic, frequently used and often needed hand-sewing stitching techniques and methods for repairing (mending), adjusting and altering clothes? Obviously, I'm a total beginner to this.
Thank you

Some useful stitches would be sewing on a button, repairing a hem and resewing a loose seam. I recommend searching YouTube for the techniques you’d like to learn. That is a great place to learn how to do all sorts of things.

There is a big push to do darning, apparently. You can find instructions on how to darn online, and I imagine, on YouTube. People are using darning to add personality to clothing, when they are also doing repair.

OP,
When looking at how to videos, if you are left handed, be sure the video is for left handed people.

I am the only left handed person in my family and my mother found it impossible to teach me basic sewing such as how to hem a skirt. She had a dear friend who was left handed teach me.

Left handed people hold the material in a different position and most stiches are the reverse of how a right handed person would so the stich.
