I'd like to wear a Speedo in the US. I hit 60 in Dec. I am fit slim and pass for much younger. But it is not the common thing to do. Maybe a Miami beach with many from South America to Europe. Or gay beach (why not) ..... but I still would feel uneasy to wear them say to the New Jersey Shore. But I wouldn't mind to. My underwear choice is low-rise type or tighter boxer brides. So the support is normal for me.
But no I would not consider them if a bigger belly or more overweight in general. I'd go to a nude beach at my age. I no longer have old body image inhibitions. I'm much more accepting and liking my bod today ..... then when young and always underweight.

I wear the square-cut ones. Really good shape for my age, very active, not fat or hairy. I can still pass for 10 years younger. I don't like the wearing the long trunks as they drag me down in the water.
I don't think it looks gay. I think it looks like a guy who thinks he's hot, and wants to strut his stuff. Presumably, that's one reason they're popular in Europe.
Or, it could be a guy who doesn't let himself be intimidated by other people's opinions. He might not worry about whether he's hot, and might not care whether anyone thinks he is or not.
Then how come in Europe, you'll see lots of straight guys wearing speedos at the public pool and beach? No one seems to think it looks gay.
You can tell by looking at a child which country it is born in, you know what gay looks like. Now you want to hear that a skinny guy with shaved legs in speedos wearing a bathrobe is a sight to see. Please wear whatever pleases you. Leave quiet judgement to those who look at it. Some may chuckle.

Translation: "I am personally not attracted to skinny guys wearing Speedos; therefore, skinny guys wearing Speedos are objectively not attractive."
Oh goodie, just what we need -- another person who can't see past their own biases, and thinks the world revolves around their sexual preferences...

Lots of the men on beach vacations outside the US are Americans......that are wearing the speedos. You will see lots more of them at beaches here too than at pools...public pools are different because there is more modesty expected at public pools for males & females unless the man is a serious swimmer.....
It’s more the culture of what is fashionable or acceptable at pools or beaches...than American or European...IMO. Fashions around the world blend nowadays....

Talking about being judgemental... ^^^
I don't think many men actually shave their legs, but I know of many men that trim the excess of hair - chest, neck, legs, arms...
Why women are expected to shave their legs, arms, armpits and what else but when men do that - they must be gay? Only hairy man is a manly man?
Perhaps exposing way too much of the hairy body just makes them look like their ancestors - Neanderthals and the apes? Not everyone is comfortable with that...
Guys, thanks to evolution, hair had lost its original purpose (you now have clothes to keep you warm!) so why is that an aesthetic complex to deal with? Man-sweat just soaks into hair and smells awful, no matter how much deodorant they slather on. Wet, sweaty, long, and drenched armpit hair is very off-putting!
Confident men are much less fearful of being branded "gay" for doing things associated with femininity. Seriously, American men should work on their self-esteem and inferiority complexes and learn to be more comfortable expressing their individuality with their bodies. Societal expectation should not take priority over personal likes and wants.
Some people have said that speedos might be perceived as girly because they show off a man's thighs when normally men cover their thighs and women show off their thighs when swimming.
Why is that? Why are people repulsed by the male thigh? Why are straight women ok with other women showing off their legs in a bikini or one-piece but not with a man in a speedo?
Of course, some might say women hardly care about a man's looks; if so, then why would a man wearing a speedo be a big deal? Women who don't care about a man's looks would not care at all.
