I tired Purex scent beads, they're tiny and washed all loads this past weekend in warm - using the last 3 pods - 1 didn't dissolve, but the scent is there - not strong, but there. I am doing linens again this weekend, including a quilt so I will hopefully get the results I want.
the only issue I've found with the dryer balls is when they get tangled up in the laundry and fall out while I'm folding, Goofy girl thinks they're a toy and I have to chase her down to get them away from her.

Fabric softener is similar to wax. It coats the strands of the fabric to prevent static cling. I have heard, but not witnessed or know anyone this is happened to, that dryer sheets actually coat the inside of your dryer drum and the filter, which causes dryer fires. And also it restricts the airflow because it coats the dryer filter so there’s no airflow through it. I have no idea if any of this is true, because I don’t use much fabric softener at all. I only use it on things that I know will have cling issues like my microfiber blanket, and an acrylic sweater or two.
So the reason that your towels don’t absorb well is because they’re all coated with fabric softener. I only use fabric softener for my not natural materials. Everything else does not get fabric softener.
I have to say I do kind of miss heavily scented clothes. But I’ve gotten used to my clothes smelling clean and not perfumed.
Most of the cleaners I now use are plant based, and while they are scented, the scents don’t last. It makes it a little more pleasant to clean. Clean doesn’t have a scent.
