I suppose it's possible but I just won't buy it because of China's human rights violations. Forcing their Uighur minority into slave labor (the source of a lot of Made in China goods) is only the most recent. I don't buy a lot of clothing and accessories (I'm retired and have a large wardrobe of good, classic clothes that still fit, including a 35-year old Brooks Brothers camel wool coat with a faded union label). Over the years, though, I've found good shoe brands made in Italy and Germany, a company that makes handbags right here in KC, I had a tailor-made business wardrobe made in the USA (the tailor said he had the work done in Chicago because he couldn't get the quality he wanted in Asia), sweaters made in Ireland and Scotland... I could go on.
You'll spend more but it will last longer and be more comfortable.
Think of China like a factory. You get what you pay for. So if you, as a manufacturer, want better clothes made with better fabrics, you have to supply the fabrics and specifications to the factory and pay for the difference in quality, which you then pass on to your customer. Most manufacturers started using overseas factories because labor is cheaper and they can get a lot of stuff for less and sell it here for less. As a consumer, you just have to try to resist throwaway clothes and try to search for better quality.
FWIW, I've taken apart a few cheaper shirts to re-make and find the production quality from India is better.
Most of the technical clothing (ie The North Face and co.) is made in China because such factories almost do not exist anywhere in the west. This stuff is pretty good quality. But for sure there's a lot of low quality stuff being made by exploited workers so it's better to opt for other solutions when it comes to regular clothing.
Well I have my eye on a Men's Vince Leather Jacket that retails for $995 made from lambskin leather, only problem is that it's Made in China. I'm not sure if it's worth splurging based on that fact alone.
Some designer labels are made in China. Factories there are set up to accommodate a variety of qualities, dependent on what the foreign company orders.
I have a tailored suit from Hong Kong that is great. I wish I could still fit in it.
Hong Kong doesn't count! I think the OP means the PRC. Hong Kong is known world-wide for high quality suits (men's suiting, especially), its cashmere (they still make 3-ply, good, thick cashmere that doesn't pill), and other beautiful styles with impeccable tailoring. Taiwan isn't bad, either; beautiful woolens, if you're not too tall or too bulky to fit into their sizes.
Hong Kong's history as a British colony must have something to do with how well they're able to tailor clothing for Westerners. No one else in Asia can do that.
This is such an uninformed question, when in fact majority of the clothing including big brands come from China. The only reason boutique brands won't make it in China because they want to keep the price high.
So here's a question for all you C-D fasionistas out there. Would you buy an expensive leather jacket from a reputable company that was made in China?
