I’ve had facial hair for over 30 years- pretty much when I exited service. The one time I shaved it all my children (younger at the time) freaked out- it wasn’t Dad.
So there- I have it for my family.
Not all heroes wear capes ... well, maybe you do, I dunno.
Most of the facial hair I see on TV and around town looks more like the man forgot to shave for a few days- scrubby and grungy. The faces are dark with shadows. I must be too old to appreciate that "look". Fortunately, none of that in my family.
OTOH, women are supposed to be clean shaven. Ouch. Who started that? I think the hair is on the wrong people.
YES! I agree.
And the beards with the sides of the neck half grown in?? UGH. (I do like the "chin strap.")
Well, i guess i must confess - i'm not a beard lover, period. And the longer it is the less i like it. I'm not saying a guy with a beard can't look good - they can. But i like clean shaven. And yeh i know it's a PITA to do every day. My guy tells me lol. (You can skip a couple days and be OK.)
And i also agree that there seem to be TONS more beards nowadays, especially the excessively long ones.
Job required I shave 5 days a week for 13 years. After that, not so much. I'll cut my neatly trimmed beard off maybe once a year and shave for a few days just to remind myself how much I hate it, and maybe get some sun.
I grew one recently. It lasted about two months. To be honest, it just wasn't for me. For one, I never got used to the itching. Then when I shaved it, I had some acne that I would never get when I shaved. little red bumps. It's from the irritation of the hair on my skin. Plus, you can't quite see what is developing underneath. So, no more beards for me. I look better with the cleaner look. What I have noticed in my life is that if you have a weak chin, a beard can cover that up. I don't have a weak chin, so it didn't do much but cover up my face. But for those that like them, wear away.
I was married to my husband for 10 years before I saw his entire face. He had a beard until he was 40, then decided to shave it. After he retired a few years ago, he decided to grow the beard again. It’s totally white now.
He keeps it groomed, so it looks nice. I wouldn’t like it if it was too long or too bushy.
I tried a mustache in grad school and it looked silly. I don't have any side burns ( dad didn't either and I don't remember either grandpa having them). Therefore, a beard would look awful. I don't know if I could get used to having to maintain the neck as I certainly would not go natural there. Also, looks like food would collect there and I would probably being scratching it all the time. I think some guys look really great in them but others should forget it. I don't get the two toned beards, head is dark, beard is white. I would use grecian formula or something to get an even color.
However, I am grateful to still have a full head of hair that is mostly salt and pepper which I am very happy to have. I get lots of compliments as well .
