And my husband is a fan.

I live on a little island, and the possibility always exists that I could be "voted" off-hahaha. Like I said though- in mild form, I can get away with it (halters and polka dots, patent plats and knotted-front shirts). I save the other stuff I have stockpiled in my closet for when I get the chance to go far away...

hee hee. I see what you mean. The other day I was dressed up to go out for the evening and had on my false eyelashes and my hair in 'victory rolls' . I had to stop at Wal Mart for some clear nailpolish (for the run in my stocking) and you would have thought I was the elephant man. The lady who checked my item out said 'sweetie, are you going to a costume party'? I smiled and said 'no-I'm going on a date with my husband'. She just stared. It was mildly disturbing.
When my family goes out, we always get looks as well. Most people think we're from Europe. I'm not sure why. It's a shame you can't dress nicely and look American.

alicenavada,
You look great - I love your look.
when I worked for a record company warehouse back in the early 80's there were a bunch of girls that were Rockabilly but I never really understood what they were - now I know. I think it was a big fad back then and must have picked up again.

Thanks. Actually rockabilly style surged in the 80's and has never gone away. It's bigger in Europe than it is here in the states but concentrates mainly on the west coast around here.

I've recently become mildly obsessed with all of the cute vintage clothes on Ebay. The sizes were just so different 50 years ago that I'm afraid to get anything. I suppose I could take my measurements, but I don't particularly want to know my measurements.

Check out some of the retro-reproduction links at the beginning of this thread. Same look, truer to today's sizing. Of course, nothing beats the craftsmanship of the older clothing but the look is still readily available.

Oooo, I was looking for some new hairstyles and found so many great tutorial videos on youtube. Just type in 'victory rolls' in the search column and you get a bunch of great retro hairstyling videos.

I love that look but at 36, I am too old for it.
