News, Is the Fashion Runway Racist?
After Rising Scrutiny, Fashion Industry Finally Comments on Lack of Black Models.
When was it decided that beauty meant blond? Or that runway shows were a dull parade of the same bland girl, with the same sad pout?

This whole situation only confirms how long America has to go. There really is not logical reason behind the lack of diversity on the runway. Fashion is supposed to be the epitome of diversity (trends, style, silhouettes). If anyone could see the narrow-mindedness behind the situation it should be the fashion industry, right?

I look at fashion magazines and it looks like the same blond zombie drone is in every picture. That is one thing I love about Tyra's Top Model show, it has a very diverse range of beauty.

It's not only black models. There is a serious lack of dark skinned models period. You don't hardly see dark skinned south Asians or Latinas either.

Your absolutely right. What's even more insulting is when they do their make-up to look Asian, instead of just hiring someone Asian.

Well, they respond to what the public wants.
It is obvious that more whites have been successful and wanted for their modeling than others. That is supply and demand. If there is a demand, there will be a supply.
Perhaps we should only blame those who request such a high majority of whites over other models.
But don't be too surprised everyone, whites are also invited to Asian countries to model over locals because people value them more in their looks.
That is no more racist than wondering why there are far more black basketball players than white ones.
The modeling industry does not care what color someone is, all they care about is money and who will get it for them.

This is very true. I went on trip to Australia a few years ago and people from all over the world attended this conference I went to. My roommate was from India. I'm blonde and blue-eyed. She told me I was beautiful and everyone in her country would think so b/c they don't have my coloring. I told her the same thing. She had the most beautiful shiny black hair and perfect skin! As long as blonde sells, there will be a disparity. Although you have to admit there are several black models who have made a fortune on the runway and in mags....Tyra, Iman, Naomi Campbell (even though she's a B****), and there is one now who has really close cut hair and does not have traditional model looks although she is attractive but I don't know her name. I don't get some of these models they think are so great anyway. Kate Moss is disgusting and always has been. Too skinny and her face is not attractive at all but she's made a killing with it so someone likes it.
