What color dress to attend wedding?
Hope the resident experts here can help me with this. Having a bit of a disagreement with the wife on what to where to a friends wedding.
Wedding and reception are being held at a very nice restaurant here in L.A. Bride is Persian and groom is Asian. My wife is Russian and wants to wear a fancy black dress but I told here that its (I think) bad luck and a sign of disrespect to show up at a wedding in black. She says its just a stupid American thing from the early 1900s and that times now are different. Im not so sure.
Is it okay for her to wear a black dress or do I just have old timey thinking?

Wedding dress.
If the wedding is an evening affair, black is perfect. If the wedding is before 5 pm, it is inappropriate to wear such formal attire.
Good luck convincing the wife!  |

Hmmmm.....I guess its okay. The wedding is at 6:00pm. I just always thought that it was bad to wear black to a wedding no matter the time of day.

Black is always the right choice for a wedding guest. It is absolutely inappropriate for a gues to show up in white when the bride is in white.
It always should depend on what the woman wants to wear. In summer I don't like black dresses b/c there are so many beautiful colors why wear black. But black is formal so you shouldn't stress yourself.

While I myself would never do it, as long as it's in good taste, wearing black is considered acceptable, and she'll be fine. Just not white.

I don't like to wear black to a wedding, but plenty of women do. Just like I always wear black to funerals, but plenty of people don't.
The only caveat here might be if there is a particular cultural taboo against it in the Persian or Asian cultures.

Black is OK, especially for an evening wedding.
White is never OK.

Black is fine for a wedding. Then again, this is coming from the person who was wearing a gorgeous black dress to her own wedding. It was beautiful and had red lace layer on top of the black.
However, women should not wear the same color as the bride.
