Default Tipping Tattoo artists

I will be getting a tattoo in the coming months. I was wondering if you tip a tattoo artist? If so, how much is the normal tipping?

We have always tipped. My philosophy on that is....you tip a hair stylist, taxi driver, the guy who takes your bags to the room, waiter when eating out - you should definitely tip someone putting permanent art on your body.
We tip 20%.

Yes, it is standard to tip a tattoo artist if they do a good job... I usually throw in an extra $20, but it really depends on how much the tattoo cost, how long it took, etc. My latest piece is a "work in progress" that's already taken 3 sittings of about 2-3 hours each. I've given the artist an extra $20 at every session, bringing the total to $60 so far. He's giving me a discount ($100/hr instead of his usual $150/hr) and doing an amazing job, so that's totally worth it!
